WINFIELD -- Former Town Councilman Roland Brauer will replace longtime Winfield Township trustee/assessor John Curley.
Brauer ran unopposed during a special township Republican precinct caucus Thursday, filling a seat that Curley had held from 1982 until his death Oct. 13.
Brauer was elected to the Town Council in 2004, and lost a bid for a second term in 2007.
Precinct officials also chose Sherry Gasparovic to fill a seat on the Township Board vacated when Melissa Yelich moved to Crown Point. Gasparovic, who worked closely with Curley as a secretary for the Lake County GOP, ran unopposed for the post.
The Lake County Republican precinct organization will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Elijah Serbian-American Hall for a caucus to select a replacement for Curley as county chairman.
Kim Krull, a registered nurse who has served as chairwoman on an interim basis since Curley's death, faces Griffith Town Councilman George Jerome.
