The City of Chicago's Landmarks Commission announced 17 winners of the 2009 Preservation Excellence Awards. The awards recognize outstanding improvements to designated landmarks and properties within Chicago landmark districts. Here are the single family residences that earned kudos this year.
After: This masonry Italianate two-flat was built in 1909 on a large double lot in Ukrainian Village. The current owners removed the non-historic items and added a new porch with painted wood stairs and decorative newel posts, new wood double doors with recessed panels and restored trim and new windows.
