Eight affordable homes will be showcased this weekend during the Pullman/Roseland Spring Parade of Homes.
New-construction homes in Roseland and restored townhomes in the Pullman Historic District will be available for touring. All the homes are for sale.
Single-family homes, two-flats and condominiums will be presented. Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago and Park Bank Initiatives are sponsoring the event, which they are billing as the first annual.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Tours will begin Park National Bank, 1000 E. 111th Street. Participants will be a given a welcome packet and gift, information on the homes and a map. Free van service will be available hourly to transport show-goers from the bank to the various residences on the tour. Participants also can take self-guided tours once they are registered. Refreshments and beverages will be available. Door prizes at each of the homes will be awarded too.
Prices start as low as $135,000 for income-qualified home-shoppers. Most homes are available for immediate delivery.
"The Parade of Homes weekend will give Chicagoans the opportunity to become reacquainted with two of the city of Chicago's most important and historic neighborhoods," said David Doig, president of Park Bank Initiatives. "All Pullman home exteriors, including windows and porches, have been carefully restored to preserve the original design details.
"Homes will have new roofs. Extensive masonry refurbishment has restored the original charm of the homes," he said.
In addition to 1880s homes in Pullman, the Spring Parade will also feature new single-family homes and two-flats in Roseland.
"We can help every step of the way in purchasing a quality home with an affordable mortgage," said Floyd A. Gardner III, deputy director of single-family programs for NHS Redevelopment Corp.
Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago and Park Bank Initiatives, the two sponsors for the event, have strong ties to the two historic neighborhoods. As longtime partners, they have worked together to foster positive community development in the two neighborhoods.
Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago is a nonprofit housing, counseling and lending organization. Since 1975, NHS of Chicago said it has served 168,883 families, loaned more than $419 million, created 3,128 new homebuyers and financed, built or rehabbed 26,923 homes.
Park Bank Initiatives Inc. is a not-for-profit subsidiary of Park National Bank. PBI has been active in the Pullman neighborhood since 2000.
